San Francisco, CA— Nixon Peabody LLP has partnered with StartOut, the nation’s largest nonprofit organization for LGBTQ entrepreneurs, to create the first-ever diversity oriented accelerator within a major law firm.

Based in Nixon Peabody’s San Francisco office space at One Embarcadero Center, the StartOut Growth Lab gives seasoned entrepreneurs an opportunity to work closely with attorneys to grow their businesses. The program consists of one-on-one legal and developmental support, as well as monthly events organized jointly by StartOut and Nixon Peabody on topics ranging from intellectual property to business development.

The first three companies to participate in the program include: Vyrill, a video-centric intelligence and marketing platform; Zeguro, a cybersecurity and insurance platform; and GPSGay, a social network and app for the LGBT community. Three more companies will be selected to join the growth lab by May 2017.

“This is an important opportunity for us to partner with creative, forward thinking future business leaders,” said Thomas Gaynor, managing partner of Nixon Peabody’s San Francisco office and a longtime member of StartOut’s board of advisors. “Our firm is strongly committed to diversity so we are thrilled to work together with StartOut on this meaningful endeavor.”

Andres Wydler, executive director of StartOut, said the growth lab is an example of Nixon Peabody’s longstanding and active dedication to diversity and entrepreneurial success. “There’s a lack of visibility of out LGBTQ role models for current and aspiring LGBTQ entrepreneurs,” Andres said. “We’re excited about the role the growth lab will play in helping drive economic development and level the playing field.”
